James S. Romm

James S. Romm is the James H. Ottaway Jr. Associate Professor of Classics at Bard College. He received his B.A. from Yale and Ph.D. from Princeton, and has been the recipient of Guggenheim and National Endowment for the Humanities fellowships. He is the editor of THE LANDMARK ARRIAN: The Campaigns of Alexander (2010), and his previous books include ALEXANDER THE GREAT: Selections From Arrian, Diodorus, Plutarch, and Quintus Curtius (Hackett, 2005), HERODOTUS ON THE WAR FOR GREEK FREEDOM: Selections from the Histories (Hackett, 2003), HERODOTUS (an introductory study in the Yale University Press “Hermes Books Series” and a selection of the History Book Club, 1998), and THE EDGES OF THE EARTH IN ANCIENT THOUGHT (Princeton University Press, 1994).

Pamela Mensch, acclaimed translator of Herodotus and Arrian, lives in New York City.
