How to request to permission to use material we represent
If you are asking for permission to use published material in a work of your own, please furnish us with all of the following information:
- Your name
- Your role or title (i.e., author, editor or publisher of a book, anthology, website, or magazine, or an employee, permissions manager or permissions assistant for any of the above)
- Company, Affiliation of the Requestor
- Mailing Address
- Phone
- Fax
- The title of the book, magazine, film, website, etc. in which the material is to be reprinted, displayed or used
- Name of the Author/Editor of book, magazine, film, website, etc. if different from the Requestor
- The name, address and phone number and other relevant contact data (e.g., the email and direct dial telephone number of your editor) of the publisher and the specific imprint to whom you need these selection rights to be formally transferred
- List all edition formats you need clearance to publish in (e.g., hardcover book, trade paperback book, mass market paperback book, book club edition, large print edition, other kind of book edition, unabridged audio edition, abridged audio edition, electronic book, online website (specify the http://, ftp:// or other net address), motion picture/television)
- List the estimated initial publication date of your book or other publication
- List the estimated price of your book or other publication
- List the estimated first print run of your book or magazine
- Indicate the territory of your publication (i.e., world, U.S., U.S and Canada, United Kingdom, other foreign country), for each format for which permission is being requested
- List all language(s) into which you wish to translate
- If you listed more than one publication format above, please indicate the publisher of each of the formats requested, your estimated publication date for that format, and the estimated price and print run for each. If unknown, say so, for each format
Required Attachment(s)
- Identify the selection by title, subtitle (i.e., poem or chapter title), if any
- Provide the bibliographic citation of your exact source for the selection as you intend to reference it in your book or other publication [i.e., Max Boot, The Savage Wars of Peace, pp. 25-47 (N.Y.: Basic Books, 2002)]
- Show all edits or deletions to the selection by attaching a photocopy or by submitting exact text which clearly shows the stricken text
- Show all additions you propose to make to the selection, such as introductory epigraphs or afterwords
- Submit the context of the selection, i.e., material from your book surrounding the selection which explains or comments upon the selection
- If your book or other publication is an anthology, attach a Table of Contents
