Terry Teachout is the drama critic of The Wall Street Journal, the culture critic of Commentary, and the author of “Sightings,” a biweekly column for the Saturday Wall Street Journal about the arts in America. He also writes about the arts on his popular web site, "About Last Night". He is a member of the National Council on the Arts and the author of the libretto of “The Letter,” an opera by Paul Moravec that premiered at the Santa Fe Opera in July of 2009. He was previously an editor of Harper's Magazine, an editorial writer for the New York Daily News and the News' classical music and dance critic. His play "Satchmo at the Waldorf" opened in New York on March 4, 2014 at the Westside Theatre and met with great acclaim, closing June 29 after 18 previews and 136 performances. He won a 2014 Bradley Prize from the Lynde and Harry Bradley Foundation for distinguished contributions to American institutions.
