Marty Makary, M.D.

Dr. Marty Makary serves jointly on the faculty of the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and School of Public Health. Educated at Bucknell University, Thomas Jefferson University, and Harvard University, he completed his general surgical training at Georgetown University and further training at Johns Hopkins University. He specializes in advanced laparoscopy, pancreas surgery, gastro-intestinal tumors, and special issues of elderly patients. He was co-developer of the life-saving checklist outlined in Atul Gawande’s bestselling The Checklist Manifesto, and his current research is focused on the delivery of quality care and health policy. He is the author of a number of previous books.
